Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
This page is maintained by the Missing Book team to explain, in plain language, what information we collect when you use Missing Book (the "Service") and how we use it. It is provided for transparency and is not a legal contract or independent certification.
Information you provide
- Account details: email address, display name, and (optionally) an avatar and short bio.
- Content you post: posts, comments, reactions, follows, and bookmarks.
- Reports you submit through our "report" flow, including the reason you provide.
- Payment details for Pro subscriptions are handled directly by our payment processor; we do not receive or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Basic session information required to keep you signed in.
- Diagnostic logs (timestamps, error messages) used to keep the Service running.
- A minimal cookie/local-storage set required for authentication and preferences (theme, layout).
How we use information
- To operate core features: showing your posts, notifying you of follows, syncing bookmarks.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reports and enforcing our Community Guidelines.
- To provide subscription features and process billing through our payment processor.
- To improve reliability and detect abuse.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with service providers who help us run the Service (hosting, authentication, payment processing, transactional email). These providers are contractually limited to acting on our behalf.
Public content
Posts, comments, reactions, follows, your public profile, and case data from public FBI records are visible to anyone using the Service, and may be indexed by search engines. Please do not post information you consider private.
Retention & deletion
You can edit your profile at any time and request account deletion by contacting us. When you delete your account, your posts and comments are removed or de-identified within a reasonable period, subject to our safety and legal obligations.
Your choices
- Update your profile from the Profile page.
- Cancel a Pro subscription at any time via the billing portal.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your data.
